We work to protect the Princeton grounds during outdoor events on campus. Large crowds, equipment, mud, and rain runoff can all contribute to grass and landscaping damage, so it’s important to protect grounds with straw or rubber matting/flooring. This protection helps absorb moisture and reduce the impact of outdoor events.
Requests
Follow the Request a Service link at the right, submit an Event Support Services request and check Grounds in additional services. One of our event support experts will contact you to identify and order the grounds protection needed for your event.
For most structures, including tents for approved events, official arrangements must be made through Campus Grounds and Building Maintenance (using the Event Support Services request form). You are also expected to inform us in advance when planning an outdoor event so we can determine the necessary grounds protection. Campus Grounds staff are normally not present during evenings or weekends. However, if your weekend or evening event requires unanticipated Grounds assistance during your event, please do not hesitate to contact Public Safety at 609-258-1000 who will call-in the appropriate staff for you.
Costs
You may be billed at our labor rates for grounds protection, or a fee of $25 per unit of heavy black rubber matting/flooring, whichever is the lesser cost.
In addition, you may also be assessed a restoration fee if excessive lawn damage occurs as a result of your event, e.g. extended tent usage that damages the grass and requires lawn reseeding.
